**Extra Credit–French Caribbean / Martinique Dance workshop Dancing in McDaniel lounge
Good evening everyone,
Last night I attended the French Caribbean dance workshop in McDaniel lounge. I must say that I had a very fun time! It was great to listen to all of the music and actually dance to it at the same time.
I felt so free spirited when I started dancing and I just let the power of the music take over me!
This dancing certainly relates to our class because of the rhythmic dance motions that we learned. These dances were created by slaves. On Sunday nights or after church, they would gather around and dance! This represents preserving cultural identity and also maintaining social organization. Communal communities can accomplish more than just one individual. At the very beginning of the reception, we watched a short video of people dancing. They are definitely maintaining their cultural heritage. One person said the dances represent “African vitality”.
In conclusion, the instructor was really fun! I loved all those dance house music songs!!! It was just great to see everyone having fun together and letting the magic of the music flow!
I certainly became more aware of the human experience around me as I attended this workshop! I had the time of my life! I couldn’t stop laughing and the dancing was amazing!! Many of the dance movements were originated from Africa. I was really amazed by the instructors talent!!! She can really dance! She was leaping in the air jumping and even dancing on her heels!! This experience was one that I shall never forget and I shall always treasure it! I think it’s so important to experience other cultures!!! You never know what you might learn! Rock on!
I wish I could get my hands on some of those recordings that were played last night! Were they French? I was really empowered by the music and the beat!
